Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I use Ambit?
Ambit provides data about your conversation. Data such as turn taking, turn sequencing and your animation level.
Often times, we are not aware of our own communication patterns. We assume we talk little when we’re actually talking a lot. Looking at the data can shine light on some of your blind sides.
When you use Ambit in different meetings, patterns will begin to emerge which can help the coaches with isolating the problem.
How do I install Ambit ?
Ambit is available as an app in the App store for you to install.
How to use Ambit in a meeting ?
Before you go to a meeting make sure your phone is connected to WiFi and you have a stable internet connection.
Open Ambit App and ‘Tap to Begin’ analyzing your conversation.
Place the phone within 2 feet from where you are sitting either face up or face down.
When you’re finished with a meeting, open the app and hit ‘Stop’ button.
Is Ambit recording my conversation ? Does it have the transcript of my meeting ?
Ambit is able to analyze your voice in real time, which means it doesn’t have to record your conversation. Ambit uses the text of the conversation to understand the sentiment of your words but it does not store the transcript of your conversation.
Who can see the analysis of my conversation ?
Your conversation analytics are your own and is not visible to anyone other than you. If you are using Ambit along with an executive coach they will have access to your dashboard to guide you to your goals.
What about the legality / privacy in a meeting ?
Ambit is only analyzing your voice and does not record any of the conversation. Ambit also separates your voice from everyone else in the room and provides analytics just on your voice.
However, as a leader / manager it is nice to inform your team members that you are using Ambit in meetings as a self-development tool to augment the leadership coaching that you are receiving.
I don’t feel comfortable about using Ambit in a meeting. Should I tell people that I’m using Ambit ?
Yes, as a leader / manager it is good to inform the other meeting attendees about Ambit.
You can show them the result of one of your previous meeting sessions and explain that a) it analyzes only your voice and b) it doesn’t record the conversation but only stores the analytics and c) they should feel free to use it as well.
Additionally, this also works as a great way to bring about the development area that you’re working and request cooperation / support from your teammates.
What are the development areas for which tracking Ambit will be a good fit ?
Ambit currently tracks turn taking, turn sequencing and emotional animation. If you’re development areas are in the field of a) conversation dominance b) not contributing enough in a conversation c) having crucial conversations d) conflict resolution where emotion is high.
Can I play highlights from my conversation ?
This is a feature that many have asked for. In order to enable this, Ambit will have to record the conversation (at least locally on your phone). Ambit currently doesn’t do that to protect the privacy of you and other meeting participants. In the future, once we have a way to get consent from everyone in the meeting, we will enable this feature.
Why do I get a "server disconnect" on my screen when using Ambit?
Weak Wifi and LTE signals will affect app performance. For the best results turn on Wifi in a location with strong signal.
