Growth is focused on new customers, increase in headcount and new leadership capability. New opportunities for the business are being pursued throughout Australasia.

This expansion of the team is a key initiative for Ambit, particularly in the pursuit of technology leadership.

Presently, there is a gap for a new Head of Engineering to take control of the cutting edge SaaS technology strategy and delivery for Ambit. The new HoE will build upon current success whilst also expanding the offering, catering to new markets and harnessing new technology to ensure the right product is delivered to meet demands.

A key member of the Ambit leadership team, reporting to the CEO, this role is responsible for contributing to strategy and delivering the platform vision.

 

Position responsibilities

The HOE will be charged with leading the technology strategy and engineering team.

This person will be tasked with creating and managing the technology strategy, vision and roadmap whilst prioritising and overseeing the delivery of the agreed milestones and features to market.

The role will combine several different aspects of leadership:

  • Engineering and technology strategy & execution
  • Vision and engineering champion
  • Research and analysis
  • Architectural direction and design
  • Leading Dev Ops for a quality custome rbase
  • Product delivery process design with the Head of Product
  • People leadership
  • Delivery Management
  • Resource allocation and utilization of product team
  • Technical consultation
  • Interpretation of technical requirements
  • Collaboration with product, sales, marketing, research and CX teams
  • Commercial acumen
  • Communications - Up, Across and Down
 
Experience profile

To accomplish the above, the new leader will need to have experiences and a set of characteristics that point to an ability to achieve these responsibilities.

This person will emerge from a background in software and product development leadership, likely managing strategic and tactical initiatives relating to the performance of technology, delivery and people.  This will likely be for a vendor that builds SaaS software for an enterprise client base.

Specifically, his/her experience will cover technology and architectural design as well as people and delivery management of high-performing cross-functional development teams using Agile and similar methodologies.  S/he will have comfort with delivering features and versions to product roadmaps and milestones.  Technically focused in his/her background, this person will still be technology-minded, able to code and make architectural decisions with future-proofing and scalability in mind for a fast-growth suite of products.

The characteristics of the person that will best fit the role will be varied and combine in different weights dependent on his/her experiences.  This person will need to be a strong communicator, equally comfortable presenting updates to the Board of Directors, speaking with customers or managing performance issues within the team and technology.

An analytical thinker s/he will be systematic and objective, contributing to the strategic plan as well as providing pragmatic solutions to commercial technology  problems, optimise delivery processes and assess team member’s performance and training needs.  Able to handle risk and ambiguity, this person will thrive under pressure.
