Are You Prepared for the Future of AI?

Our Bot Maturity Model will help you navigate a bot’s development.

This simple little guy could change your thinking and maybe even help you prepare for the future of technology. He is one part of our Bot Maturity Model, which we created to help people understand what AI is and what it means for their business.

To start with, answer these questions, stop when you get to a yes. No cheating…

1. Is your entire organisation driven by full artificial intelligence including decision support systems, robotic process automation (RPA) and chatbots?

2. Have you incorporated AI into your strategic and technology roadmap?

3. Are you running any chatbots in an external customer facing capacity? Or is a bot performing a key organisational function for you?

4. Has your business started to develop either in-house, or with some suppliers a proof-of-concept/prototype chatbot for your organisation?

5. Have you spoken to or met with some developers/suppliers of chatbot technology to understand the landscape and range of approaches?

6. Have you chatted to any chatbots online, in Messenger, Skype or in Slack?

7. Have you read at least 3 (serious business press) articles or books in the last 6 months about AI?

8. Do you know what AI stands for and what a chatbot is?

9. Are you completely unaware of AI and chatbots?

If you stopped at 1 – Please contact me. I’d like to do a PhD thesis on your company!

2 – You are whatever the type before an innovator is. Less than 0.1% of the world knows about what you do.

3 – A true innovator. The future is bright!

4 – An early adopter, so you’re still leading the pack.

5 and 6 – You’ll have the jump on the market and be ready for the world when bots permeate businesses everywhere.

7 – Great, keep going on your journey – go try out some Bots and explore the new world!

8 – Move your way back up that list.

9 – Hi Mum and Dad. Best start researching. The world will take you by surprise in the coming months.

Back to the pyramid – no doubt it’ll be clear to you that the top of the pyramid is the AI-driven organisation. What may not be clear however is that this represents a hierarchy of needs; in other words, you cannot move to the level above until you’ve completed the one you’re on. Like Donkey Kong. Also like Donkey Kong, the bottom levels are easy and take little time, and the top ones are a hugely difficult pursuit and achievement. If you don’t agree with my analogy – watch the superb documentary “The King of Kong”.

Now for some expert crystal ball gazing: Gartner predicts that by 2020, we will be having more conversations with bots than with our spouse and that artificial intelligence will account for 85% of customer relationships.

PwC reports that 38% of US jobs today will be replaced by the early 2030s. McKinsey and Company states that “automation software will replace up to 140 million full-time employees worldwide by the year 2025”.

“They don’t sleep, don’t need health insurance, and usually don’t embarrass themselves at the work Christmas party.

Why it’s important for you in business, is that those who take the leap early will be the ones to reap the rewards. Due to the rate and pace of change that we all live in today, adoption will be fast and will enable businesses ahead of the curve to deliver (arguably better) products and services for a fraction of the cost of their competitors – and then put those competitors out of business. Or they can contribute to universal basic income. But it’s probably the former.

If you are dubious, look at the respective market shares of Google, Facebook, Uber and AirBnB. Yes, there are alternatives, but the winners are so far ahead they almost don’t bear mentioning. So, get onto this pyramid now.
